Since the season has started, the Lone Star High School wrestling team has steadily improved, finishing a little bit higher in the standings each time out. The Ranger Men's team finished 6th out of 18 teams at the Rockwall Heath tournament before Thanksgiving, taking on several top 5A and 6A schools. They were paced by championship finalists Michael Gaisoa and La'Stot Pleasant, who picked up where they left off from last season's State Tournament with high level wrestling. AJ Thuenemann also place 3rd and Cade Cowan 4th. On the women's side of things, Arianna Broyles placed 3rd and Natalia Sovero took 4th.
As the calendar turned to December, the Ranger men took 3rd at the Frisco Heritage Dual Tournament. They went 3 - 2 on the day and were second in their pool during pool play. They defeated OKC Heritage Hall and The Colony, but lost to 6A Coppell. After advancing to the championship pool, the Ranger men went 1 - 1 in a pair of close duals. The lost a close one to Highland Park, but soundly defeated TCA to finish in third on the day.
This past weekend, the Rangers were wrestling all over Frisco at multiple competitions. The women journeyed to Frisco High for the annual Texas Ladies Classic. Nat Sovero prevailed as a placer, finishing 6th in a very tough field. The men's team took a short trip to Memorial High for the Inaugural Warrior Games Tournament (previously the Centennial Titan Games). The Ranger men finished in 3rd, being edged out for 2nd by Centennial and outdistanced for 1st by the defending state champions Dumas. Michael Gaisoa (220lbs) and La'Stot Pleasant (132lbs) finished as tournament champions, while Cade Cowan (195lbs) and Issachar Whitaker (285lbs) took 3rd to help bolster the team score.
The Rangers return to action tonight at Memorial High School for a dual. They will take the stage, quite literally, at 6:00pm to do battle in the Memorial Auditorium.
